One of the most popular orders for lanyards we get here at Only Lanyards is for events, exhibitions, and conferences. There are many reasons lanyards are the main choice for businesses and organisations when considering holding a conference or having a booth at an event or exhibition, so in this blog we will give you all the information you need to make lanyards work for you and your business.
You may be thinking, why lanyards? What is so good about them, they’re just a strap. But lanyards have two particularly good things going for them.
Lanyards are exceedingly versatile, they have a variety of uses, but in regards to events and conferences, they can be made to work for several purposes:
Branding and promotion are one of the most popular modern uses for a lanyard. As lanyards can be customised with any design and are affordable to produce and purchase, branded lanyards are an economically viable and popular advertising choice for businesses everywhere. The branding on a lanyard, especially at events and conferences, can increase your company’s exposure without the need for expensive publicity.
If you are at an exhibition, you may want to consider gifting lanyards to potential clients or customers. Lanyards are an excellent option for ‘freebies’. Cheap to make but being fully customisable with your company branding, handing out promotional lanyards can be an effective marketing tool. Because they are a practical item, recipients are more likely to wear or use them, especially if your branding is colourful and catches the eye, which can help reach a wider audience.
When hosting a conference, or attending an event or exhibition, one of the main considerations during planning is access and security. Security teams at conferences shouldn’t be a vastly visible presence, but they should still be easily identifiable to employees, visitors, and members of the public. Lanyards can be made saying “security” which makes them visibly recognisable, or used to hold identification. Lanyards can also identify staff members and employees. If all employees are required to wear a lanyard and ID badge at a conference, it is easier to identify those that shouldn’t be there. As a lanyard is worn around the neck, ID badges are prominently displayed. This also works when considering visitors. Access to Exhibitions and conference guests are the most likely source for any breach of security and therefore having lanyards for visitor ID badges allows for guests to be visible and recognisable due to the strap itself, whilst the visitor ID badge remains easily accessible. Not only do lanyards provide an extra security measure in environments with lots of people, but if necessary, lanyards can be colour coded to separate the staff and booth holders from guests.

One of the main advantages to using lanyards is the price. Ordered in bulk and with screen printing an affordable option, lanyards become extremely economical. This makes them available to companies and organisations, large and small. What business doesn’t like being cost efficient?!
What type of lanyard is best for Events, Exhibitions & Conferences?
There are different answers to this question, depending on what the lanyard is being used for. As explained above, there are many different uses for lanyards during a conference, from security to being given out as a freebie.
If you want to use lanyards as a promotional tool, then customised screen printed lanyards are the most cost effective option. Screen printing allows for pantone colour match, so your branding can easily be replicated onto a lanyard, along with type and images.
If being given as a freebie, you may want to keep your lanyard basic, simply using your company colours or branding.
Standard lanyards are a cheaper option, although many exhibitions and events choose to have a double-ended lanyard, which although not strictly necessary, does stop the occasional problem of any accessory reversing on the wearers chest, especially useful when being used for identification, passes and security purposes.
What type of accessory should I use?
The best lanyard accessory for use at events, exhibitions and conferences is the Clear PVC pouch. This is a clear wallet with punched holes to accommodate both single ended and double ended lanyards. They are perhaps more versatile than say a rigid plastic card holder, as it comes in different standard sizes, or even bespoke sizes if necessary. As well as being able to hold ID cards, they are in effect, just like a small wallet and can carry other bits of information. Particularly useful for conferences, exhibitions, and other events where lanyards can have a multitude of purposes; the PVC holder can easily carry printed ID’s, entrance tickets, floor plans, passes, and anything else you can think of!
If a lanyard is being used for a badge or security pass, or even keys during a conference or event, then a badge reel is an excellent accessory. Whilst a popper fastening, or metal belt clip provides a straightforward way for your employees, members of security and conference guests to keep their access passes and identification badges secure.
