Make your mark with personalised lanyards

The versatility of the lanyard is what makes it so effective as a promotional item. With the right design, you can combine form and function to create something really useful.

In this blog, we'll show you how to personalise your lanyard to get the most out of it.

What are Personalised Lanyards?

The basics of a lanyard are all the same – it's a narrow piece of fabric worn round the neck in a loop, usually with a clip and an attachment, such as an ID cardholder. So, how do you make yours stand out from the crowd?

If your objective is to raise brand awareness, then personalisation is key. In a sea of lanyards that all look the same, you need something that draws attention.

You can personalise your lanyard in lots of different ways, but the most obvious is the design you choose to have printed on it. Your colours and design are ideal opportunities to make your mark.

Personalised lanyards – your design

Getting the design of your lanyard right is tricky, because it's so narrow – but when it's done well, it really packs a punch! You can choose to have a one/two colour-spot print on a ribbed, flat polyester, or a full-colour print on a smoother, satin-like material.

The most effective designs are bold with simple elements and contrasting colours. We recommend sticking to one typeface and one or two words, like 'Staff' or 'Visitor'.

You can choose the colour of your lanyard's fabric and the colours we use in your printed design. We use Pantone and RGB colour references to guarantee an exact match with your brand colours.

When it comes to designing your lanyard, you have two options.

  1. We can design it for you – just send us an editable version of your logo and anything else you'd like including, along with your colour references (Pantone or RGB).
  2. You can design it yourself and send us the complete artwork. If we spot any problems with your sizing or spacing, we'll let you know so you can make changes to it.

At Only Lanyards, we've made it easy for you to work with us. You can send in your logos and other design elements via email or web form, or if you prefer to speak to someone on the phone, our team is ready to take your call.

Personalised lanyards – clips and attachments

Your lanyard's printed design is just one way of making sure it stands out in a crowd – you can also personalise the clip and attachment that comes with it.

All our lanyards come with a metal trigger clip as standard, but we have a range of other options, including:

  • dog clip
  • Japan hook
  • carabiner clip
  • lobster claw
  • swivel J hook
  • split ring
  • flat metal hook
  • crocodile clip

In addition to your lanyard's clip, you also have the option of adding an attachment.

Our rigid plastic ID cardholders are popular with customers who want a permanent attachment to carry their staff identification or a key card. You can also choose to have your cardholders printed on one side in either portrait or landscape.

We also offer clear PVC pouches, which are ideal for temporary visitor badges. You can cut down or fold a paper badge to sit inside the wallet, and because it is clear, the badge remains on display.

What are designer lanyards?

Designer lanyards are made for those occasions when you need something a bit different to the run-of-the-mill. They are completely bespoke, so you choose the fabric, the finish, and the clips and attachments.

You might want a raised PVC print or a pantone-matched metal trigger clip, or perhaps you're looking for an unusual attachment, like a wine glass holder.

These custom lanyards give you the freedom and flexibility to design something that matches the occasion. If you are organising a music festival, for example, you might choose a flashing LED lanyard with a whistle attached.

The more functional you make your lanyard, the more likely it is to be used again – creating more opportunities for people to see your branding. And if you want it to be memorable, you'll also need an impressive printed design.

Is there a place for plain lanyards?

There will be occasions when you need a fast turnaround and waiting for your lanyards to be designed and printed isn't an option. When you order before 2pm, you can have your lanyards the next working day, which is perfect for last-minute events.

They're made from a flat-ribbed polyester, and come in a range of standard colours. If you have a bit more time to wait, we can also make your lanyard in a Pantone-matched colour to suit your branding. This is ideal if you're happy to have a plain lanyard but you need a perfect colour-match.

Plain lanyards come with a metal trigger clip and a safety break positioned behind the neck, which is designed to snap open if anyone pulls the lanyard or it gets caught-up.
