Lanyard Frequently Asked Questions: Part Two

Lanyard FAQs

How can I Make a Jewellery Style Lanyard?

Most laces available are around 36" which happens to be the standard lanyard size. However, you can make any sized lanyard you wish. Just make sure it is comfortable to wear. Start your jewellery lanyard by taking a satin, leather or velvet cord. Then, thread coloured stones onto it, as well as beads or trinkets if you have those available. You don't necessarily need to use cord for your lanyard. Smooth and flexible wire also does the trick. You don't want the items on your lanyard rolling around too much, so make sure the end is firmly fixed in place. Have fun making your jewellery style lanyard and customise your design to your exact taste!

What Other Styles of Lanyard are Available?

As well as the usual plain lanyards, there are others which are sure to attract attention, like Hawaiian style lanyards in colourful floral prints! Lanyards like this are perfect for themed parties. There are celebrity lanyards out there like the Harry Styles lanyard which was popular at one point with fans as a treasured collectable item. All lanyards provided by us are both high quality and remarkable in design.

What is a Lanyard Loop?

You should have information on your lanyards parts from the manufacturer, whether this is a simple make it yourself string or a lanyard from a well-known manufacturer. A lanyard loop is an accessory that allows someone to secure a gun against their body. It's similar to a piece of string that is worn on the upper body. It reaches through the pistols ring, holding it in place.

Why do Lanyards have a Twist?

Some lanyards feature a twist so that they remain comfortable while being worn and appear neat all the time. This is because the twist ensures the lanyard remains flat at all times. Considering the item you're attaching to the lanyard, and you'll need to choose the right width and length.

How Long are Lanyards?

The standard lanyard is 91cm long, which is 36". For children, the measurement is adjustable. Meaning the lace can be adjusted in proportion to the child's height using a measuring tape. To work out the correct sized lanyard for a child, place a measuring tape around their neck and lean it on their chest. Remember not to use the same size for an ID lanyard as this could be too long or short. Some consideration needs to be made for lanyard size if they are being used for visitors. Usually, a lanyard measuring 90cm or 46cm length with a 1mm thickness is sufficient. The hole for the lanyard should be around 0.75mm, while the name tag should measure 60mm in width and 90mm in height. Several different sized pouches can be used with lanyards, which can be configured either landscape or portrait.

What Size Lanyard Insert Should I Choose?

The overall size and insert size is different for lanyards. The insert is made up of a plastic pouch and fastener slot, punch holes and a resealable zipper. The card size for a lanyard refers to the area where the ID card fits.

How Wide is a Lanyard?

It really depends on your requirements. However, your lanyard design will determine the design you can choose. Designing a lanyard too wide, such as what you might expect on a rucksack strap, will not be very comfortable, and people probably won't wear it. At the other extreme, lanyards that are too narrow will be challenging to design for due to the limited area available. Also, the text is unlikely to be very legible on a thin lanyard.

What are an ID Card's Dimensions?

Typically, they're the size of a credit card so subsequently, can fit neatly inside a wallet. Data collection sized cards are larger and are ideal for when printed names need to be fully legible. Portrait government sized cards exist which are used for law forces and measure 2.63" x 6.7cm. For name badges, virtually any size card can be used. However ID-1 style cards aren't recommended for this purpose as they're not big enough. For people wanting to print photos on ID cards, the recommended size is 5 x 5cm. Obviously, the size of the image depends on the dimensions of the card itself.

What are the Dimensions of an ID Card in Photoshop?

2.12" tall by 3.37" wide with a 0.03" thickness as stated by the International Organization of Standards (ISO). In PhotoShop, other ID card dimensions are also available, all of which have been carefully established so that the final cut is accurate.

What Should a Name Badge Include?

It mainly depends on what you want to print on your card. Usually, this includes the wearer's name, their position, company, contact details and a logo. The key to a great name badge is structuring the information correctly. This also helps to create a great first impression. If the text is too small and the data cannot easily be understood, the purpose of the badge is lost. Readers should not have to strain their eyes to see your badge. The same principles also apply to Lanyard card holders and ID cards.
