Lanyard card holders – it’s all about style

Only-Lanyards-Style (3)

Lanyard card holders are plastic attachments that fit to the bottom of a lanyard to display the wearer’s ID. Like everything else that's great about the lanyard, card holders can be customised to suit your style and purpose. In this blog, we look at your options when it comes to choosing a lanyard card holder and how to place an order.

A basic introduction to lanyard card holders

The two main types of lanyard card holder are:

  • rigid plastic ID cardholders
  • soft PVC badge holders

Both can be attached to the end of a lanyard using a standard metal trigger clip, but if you prefer something different, we have a wide selection of other clips on offer.

Rigid plastic cardholders are ideal for use in workplaces where staff need to have their ID on display, for example, NHS workers, police support staff or teachers. In these settings, being able to visibly authenticate staff at a quick glance is crucial to security.

PVC badge holders are more suited to short-term use where you have a paper ID or visitor pass that you wear temporarily. This type of attachment is perfect for exhibitions or conferences where delegates can slot in their printed name badge or business card.

Plastic ID card holders for lanyards

This type of card holder is made from rigid plastic and is designed to hold a credit card-sized ID card. When it comes to finding the right fit for your business, there are several styles to choose from, and all of them are available in a variety of colours.

Open-faced or enclosed

Open-faced card holders allow the card to be seen, so the wearer's ID is visible – you can choose from a single-sided or double-sided open face. We also offer enclosed plastic card holders, which are ideal for carrying key cards, which don't need to be seen.

Portrait or landscape

Whether your ID is portrait or landscape, we have a lanyard card holder to suit you. Both work in the same way using standard clips and can be ordered in a variety of colours.

Printed single-sided

To complete the look of your custom lanyards, you can choose to have one side of your card holder printed with your logo. This is only available for single-sided, open-faced lanyard card holders in either portrait or landscape.

Did you know that we also sell printed plastic ID cards and photo cards? In fact, we can supply any kind of printed card you require – contact our team for prices.

Clear, soft PVC badge holders

These badge holders are made from a clear, soft PVC which is designed to hold paper or plastic ID cards that can be taken in and out easily. They can be attached to either a single or double-ended lanyard, and they are available in a range of sizes.

You can choose to order from one of our stock sizes or have them custom-made. Some of our most popular PVC wallets, include:

  • 92 x 57mm landscape (suitable for credit card-sized inserts)
  • 105 x 78mm landscape
  • 89 x 115mm portrait
  • A6 landscape or portrait (152 x 135mm)

We don't expect you to be an expert in lanyards, so our team are on-hand to help you choose the right sized card holder. If we think there is another style of card holder better suited to meeting your needs, we'll let you know.

Picking the right style card holder

Personalised lanyards are popular with a range of audiences because they are practical, but if you want them to remain useful, you've got to pick the right card holder. We've put together three examples of choosing the right style lanyard for different purposes.

  1. Teachers and support staff

To keep staff and students safe on school grounds, it's important for everyone to be able to identify who's who at a quick glance. For this purpose, we recommend having an open-faced rigid plastic card holder so the wearer’s ID is always visible. This style of card holder is tough enough to withstand everyday use, even for hands-on primary teachers.

  1. Trade show delegates

Being able to identify delegates at a trade show is key for effective networking, but they aren't going to need to wear their ID beyond the event. Clear PVC pouches that can hold a temporary printed badge are the ideal solution here. You can then choose to let your delegates keep the lanyard for further brand exposure or ask for them to be handed back so you can re-use the wallets at your next event.

  1. Staff in secure buildings

In buildings where access is restricted to authorised personnel, staff may need to carry a key card around with them to open doors. If the key card is blank or it doesn't need to be on show, then an enclosed rigid plastic card holder is best suited. You could also consider adding a quick release clip or retractable reel to make it easier to use.
